Consider Augustine a casual wine bar or cozy comfort-food cubby. But when you’re there, always check the chalkboard to see if something surprisingly old or rare is being offered by the glass from the deep collection of co-owner David Gibbs, culled from his travels as a touring musician. At a time when so many wine programs chase new trends and cult winemakers, it’s refreshing to see vintage variation and benchmark producers re-enter the conversation. Its menu, which spans from cheese and charcuterie to grilled fish and steak frites, is refreshingly unpretentious as well.
